Album Info

Quadrilha were born in 1991, after a series of solo projects by leader Sebastião Antunes. Behind the new group was the desire to create a fusion between traditional Portuguese folk stylings and influences from other cultures and traditions, namely the Celtic sounds the band is so fond of. 1992 brought the project's first album, “Contos de Fragas e Pragas”, and the following albums, "Até o Diabo se Ria" (1995) and "Entre Luas" (1997) marked a slow but steady progression. Quadrilha were focusing on searching for the right sound and the instruments they needed to reach it. 2000's "Quarto Crescente" was the cornerstone: with a new line-up, the band takes a giant leap, becoming Portugal's premier folk band. Quadrilha's music is generally as simple as the motifs explored in its songs and its lyrics. And, in fact, Sebastião Antunes is not only a musician but a storyteller, his tales reflecting feelings and beliefs from the country folk: their legends, the stories they tell by the fireplace, their superstitions, mysteries and charms. The songs are either festive celebrations or tender ballads, but always presented with a unique, personal touch by a band whose musicians come from many different countries and many different styles. On stage Quadrilha are a non-stop party from all over the world. Their 2003 album "A Cor da Vontade" was a fresh start for the band, a more responsible record as well since Sebastião Antunes is now paying closer attention to the "global village" we all live in. Antunes also shows a new side of his talents as the record's producer, directing the band towards the sound he's always had in his head.
