Album Info

Kirrin Island is a traveller. With microphones in his pockets, some gadgets in his bag to pass the time and the readiness to rivet his attention to the smallest detail. Slowly his collection of sound grows steadily with every noise captured, with every crackle recorded and stored. Monkeypuzzle is the first release of Kirrin Island, an illustrator, artist, dj and musician deeply rooted and committed to the DIY scene of Hamburg. On this five-track tour (or even 6 if you count the bonus track which is only available on the physical version of the EP) you find abstract beats, sliced noises, engaging claps and screams, hints and echoes of voices, movie samples, children, sounds of nature and the overall joy the creator of all this seemed to have while gathering and piling up this organic collection of tracks. It's the same playfulness that creates videos like "Weekend for Holidays" one of the EP's highlights. Initially the intention was to finish this EP on the countryside over the course of a long weekend, but once it was discovered the power supply of the computer was accidentally left at home it all went down to be finalized in the city. Monkeypuzzle is an outlook, a window to the places Kirrin Island wants to show us from now on. And we are in for the ride.
