Album Info

Ellen Ugelvik received the Norwegian Grammy Award (Spellemannprisen) in 2008 for her debut CD 'Makrokosmos'. On her new album 'Serynade', she explores further the resonance opportunities of the grand piano. The starting point is Helmut Lachenmann´s gigantic piece for solo piano, a piece that is rarely performed because of its extreme difficulty. The two Norwegian pieces on the album, written especially for Ugelvik by Christian Blom and Christian Jaksjø, go further into the timbre world of the grand piano.

Ugelvik gave birth to a daughter in October, but already three weeks later she was a soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. In recent months she has given recitals at major festivals in England, France and Luxembourg, and has toured in the U.S. where she played at a house concert in Madonna's former villa in Beverly Hills. She is one of the profiles during Risør Chamber Music Festival 2012.
