Write a review for Terminal
Maximum 3000 characters-
Pop? Hjaltalín may sound like many a genre or an artist, but I'd never label this pop, at least not in the year 2011 when pop can be anything from James Blake to Lady Gaga.
I hear Sting, I hear Michel Buble, I hear jazz, I hear great vocals, I hear a majestic and grandiose performance you do not hear that often these days. True, its grandeur may be somewhat exaggerated and articial sometimes, but I still fell for it - in the flood of electronic and indie rock band from the one side (this is not to say that these genres are bad, I really love indie rock and electronic music) and commercial autotuned fruity-loops-like globalpop on the other, Hjaltalín is a pleasant diversion indeed. -
A bit like visiting a museum with a class full of art students, Terminal is irritating, pretentious and occasionally grating, but mostly just a soothing and smoothly flowing waste of time. Its massive, almost hyperbolic grandeur is a bit hard to take seriously up close, with the orchestral arrangements failing to ascend beyond the role of redundant accompaniment and never quite justifying their presence on the album. Terminal’s cool detachment and civility all too often feels false and postured, like Hjaltalín would much rather be making some other kind of music, but there are moments, like Song From Incidental Music and Sonnet For Matt (what terrible titles), where the mood feels real and appropriate and the band seems truly comfortable. It is those moments I’ll be listening for during the endless tirade of Christmas parties I’ll be forced to hear this album in.

I was pleasantly surprised. I was not aware of that they had made such a big musical piece. Very visual experience.

Wooooooooow... That was my first expression (to my cat;) Since then I have told people Hjaltalín is my favourite band these days. I think TERMINAL is a masterpiece.
