Album Info

Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson’s piano pieces embody all the attributes of a “Well Tempered Pianist”: a wide span of styles, techniques, and emotions, all embraced with a great sense of humor. This recording presents the complete output of Thorkell´s serious piano works. In addition to being one of Iceland´s most prolific and respected composers, Thorkell has been an active participant in Iceland´s musical scene as pianist, teacher, critic, and radio producer.

“The Well Tempered Pianist” is the debut recording of Kristín Jónína Taylor, an Icelandic-American pianist who has been enthusiastically received for her performances of Nordic piano works. Kristín is the recipient of two Fulbright grants for the purposes of researching Icelandic music, most recently on the complete works of Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson.
