Here are the ‘Trombones On Parade’... the blaring brass band sounds that set hearts pounding, pulses racing and quickens the beat of marching feet. Robert A. Williams directs the All-American Band in this high-stepping concert of favorite band melodies. Two of them are in a festive, holiday spirit – the caper-cutting title tune, Trombones On Parade and the exciting tribute to the famous Southern city... Memphis the Majestic. The military comes in for review in the brisk, martial atmosphere of a full-dress parade at the Citadel, and in the platoons of smartly-dressed cadets participating in a Triumphal March. A similarly exultant atmosphere of triumph is expressed in the soul-stirring patriotic marches Emblematic and Ever Forward. The parade ground leads to the green fairways of the mall. There, composer Fred Jewell unfurls a regal overture entitled Cloth Of Gold. In a modern treatment of an ancient Scots melody, Blue Bells, we get a captivating blend of bagpipes and heather, and the marching strains of Greenway conjure up a Spring-in-the-air feeling. Finally, the concert waltz, Beautiful Days recalls the heydays of the village band, which did so much for the advancement of music in America.
