Album Info

"I used to think that ("Wealth") was a direct musical interpretation of one of the worst time periods of my life, but it's not. It was my escape, it was the thing that I sunk my head into, to escape the real world."

"Wealth" is Haukur Hannes' debut solo album, and consists of six instrumental songs that entwine the guitar with cellos, piano, and the more common; bass and drums. The album as a whole has a conscious awareness of focused atmosphere, and the songs easily flow together as a whole.

It has a strong emotional value for the artist, as it spawned from a bad personal situation in early 2009. Haukur has commented on this:

"For the first time in my life I experienced a very clear connection with myself as a musician, and this music sort of became my escape from the real world.

I wrote as much as I possibly could. I wrote constantly for 4 days, because everything sort of came to me without any real effort, I didn't need to force anything.

So on the fifth day I stopped writing, because by that time my connection was becoming forced.

I gathered the highlights of that period and constructed this album, Wealth, which has to this day a very strong personal meaning to me. With it, I wasn't aiming at reinventing myself as an artist, or to gain any recognition for it, I didn't want it to be a "showoff" album and I didn't want it to define me as a musician. I just wanted to get it out of my head and move on with my life."
