Django Reinhard meets Claude Debussy and Astor Piazzolla!WHITE NIGHT STORIES is now being released on CD by Hot Club de Norvège featuring the new jazz violinist Ola Kvernberg and Tromso Symphony Orchestra. It is based on the gypsy swing of Django Reinhardt, mingled with impressionistic chords, mainstream jazz, a pinch of tango, and an accoustic saw. Both Django Reinhardt and Duke Ellington had the idea of writing a concert combining a full string orchestra with the bohemian gypsy jazz, but it never happened - until now.
HOT CLUB DE NORVEGE was established when the acoustic gypsy swing revival swept over Europe in the 70-ies. Today they have developed their own sound, and continue the search for a contemporary expression of the gypsy jazz. They often feature great gypsy artists, and include surrealistic poetry in their show.
HOT CLUB DE NORVEGE are touring the whole world, and spend most of the year on the road. In addition to their affinity to gypsy jazz, they have given concerts with several of the foremost classical performers today, like the Vertavo String Quartet or Nigel Kennedy, but this is the first time they feature an entire symphony orchestra. They have released 25 CD's of their own, and their record company, Hot Club Records®, have produced CDs with several hundreds of the foremost musicians in the history of the jazz manouche, from the early pioneers like Baro and Matelo Ferret, Robert Normann and Stéphane Grappelli, to the debut recordings of young guitar talents like, Jimmy Rosenberg, Stochelo Rosenberg and Angelo Debarre. Each year since 1980 they also arrange the Django Festival in Norway.
HOT CLUB DE NORVEGE is: Jon Larsen (guitar, composer), Finn Hauge (harmonica, saw and violin), Per Frydenlund (guitar, vocal) and Svein Aarbostad (bass, poetry).
