Album Info

The Rock Garage Texas Live Concert Series Volume 1 was recorded from late 2009 through 2010 in Austin, TX in the live music venues of this famed rock and roll city. This powerful collection features the formidable trash rockers Nashville Pussy, two side projects from Jeff Pinkus of Butthole Surfer fame, Austin's own Hickoids among other legendary Texas favorites and a few up and comers soon to be classics in their own right. The Album also contains a fantastic cover of X’s classic hit ‘New World” by The Texas Sapphires. Exene Cervenka liked it so much that she invited The Texas Sapphires to play with The Knitters in Ft Worth, TX. Darcie Stevens of the Austin Chronicle raves, "It’s that mix of punk, post-punk, electronics, hip-hop, and humor that makes PONG so much fun." Churchwood straddles two of Austin's music scenes: blues and alternative with Bohemian panache, gonzo élan, punky ‘tude, bluesy grit, stunning musical mastery and imagination while keeping a firm grip on the roots of the blues. The result is a sound that’s rife with the beef and the heart. David Fricke of Rolling Stone says, "Amplified Heat...destroyed the crowd with a boogie-war vengeance. Rock dreams that quickly came to mind: Stevie Ray Vaughn fronting the Groundhogs; ZZ Top with Blue Cheer running in their veins." Dash Rip Rock is a legendary live powerhouse, often credited with founding the musical genre known as "Country Punk", mixing Austin's punk rockabilly with Athens' southern pop.  Reprise Magazine declares "The Ugly Beats are one of the grooviest, slammin'est, poundin'est, wailin'est garage bands to ever come out of Texas." Austin has let it’s secret out of the bag with this record.
